

BCE closes our 2022/23 season with songs of love, acceptance, and compassion. Works include “This Is How You Love” by Jocelyn Hagen and Timothy C. Takach (winner of BCE’s 4th Commission Competition), and the New England premier of “You Have a Name and a Place” by Lansing McLoskey, the winning piece from BCE’s 11th Commission Competition, with additional works by Saunder Choi, Edward Elgar, and others.

Program:
“There is Sweet Music”—Edward Elgar called his setting of Alfred Tennyson’s poem as “a clinker, and the best I have done”
“You Have a Name and a Place”—this choral-cycle by Lansing McLoskey sets texts from five Mormon poets of the LGBTQ+ community reflecting on self-discovery, personal struggle, and the conflict between same-sex love and the faith traditions that have historically condemned it
“This is How We Love”—co-composed by Jocelyn Hagen and Timothy C. Takach, this multi-movement work explores the depths of relationships using texts from different poets, threaded together with transcripts from couples’ therapy sessions.
“June Jasmine”—Saunder Choi’s arrangement of one of the most popular and recognizable folksongs of Taiwan
“O Love”—Elaine’ Hagenberg’s new setting of a classic hymn uses hopeful ascending lines to represent renewed faith
“Good Night, Dear Heart”—Dan Forrest composed this short a cappella piece as a response to the death of an infant girl in Ethiopia who was about to be adopted by his brother and sister-in-law.
“My Flame The Song”—Kim André Arnesen’s song celebrates the connections that we build through singing, in the moment and across generations
“True Colors”—Cyndi Lauper’s classic hit from 1986, in an arrangement by Saunder Choi

Adult - General Admission: $25 advance online purchase ($30 at the door)
Adult - Student/Senior: $15 advance online purchase ($20 at the door)
Children, 12 years and younger: $10
EBT cardholders and their families can attend free of charge—show your EBT card at the door for free admission
For this concert, we have a special ticket offer for families and groups. For parties of more than 2 people, the first two tickets are on sale at the regular price, and additional tickets can be purchased at a lower price of $10 each.
COVID-19 Safety Precautions at BCE Concerts
BCE will always prioritize the safety of our singers and audience members. To maximize everyone’s safety and enjoyment at the concert, the following policies will be in place:
Masks: Face masks are strongly recommended. Please bring a mask that you can wear comfortably for the duration of the concert. (BCE will also provide masks if needed).
Vaccines: Audience members may be asked to show proof of receiving a vaccination or boosters against COVID-19 from the past six months, or to show a negative Covid test result from the past 72 hours.
Stay Home If You’re Sick: If you are feeling at all sick, please stay home. You can request a full refund for tickets that you are unable to use due to illness.
