The Walk for Music—Goal Reached!!

as of April 29th we've raised:
$10,164 or 101% of the goal!

Dear Friends,

On Sunday, April 29, 2012 the members of The Boston Choral Ensemble will once again join over 1,000 musicians from the Boston area for the 9th annual Walk for Music. This fundraiser helps keep the arts alive in our communities by raising support for local music programs. Best of all, 100% of the pledges we raise will go directly to the Boston Choral Ensemble (BCE).

In this, our 11th season, we will once again aim to raise $10,000. These funds will allow BCE to continue providing opportunities for singers and audiences to enjoy and learn about choral music. They also allow us to continue our tradition of offering by donation Sunday performances and ensuring that all Bostonians have access to our music.

Your donation can be measured in ways like the following:

  • $25 pays for one week of administration
  • $60 pays for programs for one concert
  • $65 pays for one week of rehearsal space
  • $75 pays for one week of BCE’s marketing budget
  • $100 pays for sheet music for one member of the ensemble
  • $105 pays for piano accompaniment for one rehearsal
  • $125 pays for posters for one concert
  • $500 pays for performance space for one concert
  • $1500 pays for the annual Commission Competition prize

Ask any of our patrons and they'll tell you just how much our performances add to the Boston arts scene. In November, we kicked off our 11th season with VERTUE, a performance pairing Tomás Luis de Victoria’s Missa ascendens Christus in altum with music by award-winning British composer Judith Weir. In December, we once again presented A CHORAL HOLIDAY, a fun and musical way to usher in the holiday season, this time in collaboration with the choirs of Marlborough High School. This March we offered BUTTERFLY DREAMS, an evocative exploration of music about sleep and dreaming. Finally, we’ll wrap-up the season in June with CHICHESTER, a concert featuring works commissioned by Dean Walter Hussey for Chichester Cathedral in England, as well as the world premiere of The Mountain Lion by Stephen Feigenbaum, the winner of BCE’s 5th annual Commission Competition.

As with many other non-profit music ensembles, BCE's ticket sales do not cover the full cost of producing our concerts. The Walk for Music is our way of ensuring that this and other Boston arts groups remain visible, viable, and vital for years to come.

I hope that you are able to support us with a tax-deductible pledge toward the Walk for Music. No gift is too small! You can mail checks to us at PO Box 170141, Boston, MA 02117 or click on the 'Support the Walk' button to give quickly and effortlessly online! If you're one of those who've already given, thank you. If you'd still like to give, we welcome your pledge to keep music alive in our community.

Thank you,

Lauren Roller
President, BCE Board of Directors
